Student Success
Excessive time spent on standardized testing takes away from actual learning, and the scoring standards often appear inconsistent. We need to push for academic excellence and adapt to each student's needs. Additionally, we need to focus on a balanced view of history that still promotes a sense of patriotism and drive so that our students can be successful in the future.
Support Teachers
Coming from a family of generations of teachers, I understand the critical role teachers play in the quality of our schools. Currently, teachers face disrespect and lack of disciplinary support in the classroom, leading to disruptions that hinder learning. As a school board member, I will advocate for stronger support systems for teachers to ensure they have the tools needed to maintain a productive and respectful learning environment.
Stewardship of Tax Dollars
With CCISD spending $16,000 (TPPF) per student annually, it's essential to ensure these tax dollars are used efficiently. My decades of business experience equip me to scrutinize spending and identify efficiencies. I will advocate for practical solutions, such as using Del Mar facilities for vocational training, to maximize the value of taxpayer dollars and provide students with valuable skills.

His father also taught at the college level. This deep family connection to education has given Michael valuable insight into the challenges teachers face and the importance of respecting and supporting them. He frequently engages with educators and understands their primary concerns, including the need for better administrative support in managing student behavior and the limitations imposed by computerized curricula.
Michael is deeply concerned about the excessive focus on standardized testing, which often leads to a significant amount of time spent on test preparation while test results continue to decline. He also advocates for more efficient use of educational facilities to reduce unnecessary costs.
Michael is married to Connie Bergsma, and they have one daughter, Deborah Strasser, and three grandchildren.
